Honoring Senator Lieberman's Legacy: A Call to Stand Firm for Israel

In today's fast-paced world, where headlines come and go with the blink of an eye, it's all too easy for the legacy of a truly remarkable individual to be momentarily acknowledged before being swept away by the next news cycle. Yet, just over a week has passed since we lost Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, a man whose life was a pillar of dedication, faithfulness, and principled leadership.

As we approach this Shabbat, let's pause and truly honor the enduring legacy of Senator Lieberman, reflecting on the words of Paul: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7). In remembering Senator Lieberman, we're reminded of the deep impact one individual can have through a life well-lived, grounded in steadfast values and an unwavering commitment to both faith and country.

Senator Lieberman's commitment to Israel and his unwavering faith were not just hallmarks of his public service; they were the very essence of his being. With his final hours upon him, Senator Lieberman chose to devote his last moments to a cause close to his heart—Israel. Surrounded by his family in New York, he was not deterred by the physical complications of a fall but remained steadfast, finishing a poignant statement on the future of U.S.-Israel relations and the importance of bipartisan support for Israel.

This act of dedication underscores a profound truth: for Senator Lieberman, support for Israel was more than policy; it was a deeply held conviction, blended with his faith and love for God's chosen people.

Regardless of our political affiliations, as Christian Women For Israel, we are called to honor a man whose life's end was a testament to his enduring commitment to his faith, America, and Israel. In the bustling rhythm of leadership and service, Senator Lieberman never wavered from his principles or his devotion to guiding light of his faith. His example challenges us to consider how, in our own lives, we might remain true to our convictions with unwavering faith, even with the demands and distractions of our daily lives.

Shabbat: A Time for Reflection

Senator Lieberman's dedication to Shabbat, even during the busiest times, reminds us of the restorative power embedded in God’s commandments. As Exodus 20:8-11 instructs us, "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God."

Shabbat is more than a pause from the week's toil; it's a spiritual refuge, a time to realign with our deepest values and connect more intimately with our Creator. Deuteronomy 5:12-15 echoes this sentiment, urging us to "Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy," as a sign of our covenant with God, a reminder of our deliverance and a testament to our faith.

If a busy senator can carve out time for rest and worship, it challenges us to consider how we might also find space in our lives for such moments of peace and renewal. This Shabbat, let's honor his memory by embracing the rest and reflection he so cherished.

Stand Together in Support of Israel

As we honor Senator Joseph I. Lieberman's enduring legacy, we are reminded of his unwavering dedication to Israel—a dedication that culminated in his final poignant plea for its support. In his last hours, Senator Lieberman crafted a statement emphasizing the critical need for bipartisan support for Israel, a message that holds even more weight in light of recent events.

With President Biden's recent remarks that have stirred concern among pro-Israel advocates, the urgency of our voice in support of Israel has never been more apparent. Despite Senator Lieberman's clear warning against the potential shift in U.S. policy towards Israel, recent developments indicate a challenging road ahead. The President's call for an "immediate ceasefire" and demands for concessions from Israel in hostage negotiations have sparked a significant debate, highlighting a divergence from the steadfast support traditionally extended to Israel.

In this crucial moment, our solidarity with Israel is paramount. By donning the yellow-ribbon lapel pin, we do more than just signal our support; we stand together with our Jewish brothers and sisters in our commitment to Israel's security and right to defend itself. This simple yet powerful act serves as a testament to our resolve to uphold the values Senator Lieberman championed and to confront the challenges facing Israel today.

As members of Christian Women for Israel and modern-day Esthers, let us renew our commitment to stand firmly with Israel. Let CW4I's yellow-ribbon lapel pins be a call to demand the hostage return comes before a ceasefire and please, use it as a call to action and talking point to encourage others to join CW4I in support of Israel.

And as you join us in praising the Living God for the miracle of the modern-day state of Israel, we pray you’ll renew your own resolve to bless Israel and the Jewish people by giving a generous gift of support.

May God bless you for being a blessing to Israel and the Jewish people

Yes, I want to Bless the Jewish People in Israel!
