From Swift Embrace to Strategic Moves: Israel's Reflection in Today's World

In a world filled with different kinds of news stories, some catch our eye more than others. Have you ever wondered why we're drawn to the love story of celebrities like Taylor Swift and her football-playing boyfriend, Travis Kelce, while at the same time, we're tuned into the serious actions of world leaders like Vladimir Putin, recently interviewed by Tucker Carlson? This blend of narratives invites us to reflect on our engagement with the world and our responsibilities as followers of Christ.

Taylor and Travis show us what comfort and safety look like through their body language. When Taylor leans into Travis, it's not just a hug; it's a sign that she trusts him completely. On the other side of the world, Putin's interview with Tucker gives us a lesson about a man dominating and in control. He's always in charge, making sure everyone knows he's the leader. These are two very different kinds of stories - one about love and the other about power.

Now, you might be thinking, "What's the connection to Israel here?" Israel's story is about surviving and thriving, being loved and yet hated relentlessly. Just like Taylor and Travis, and even Putin, Israel embodies a complex narrative of resilience and sovereignty. As Christian Women for Israel, we are called to discern the deeper truths beneath these captivating tales. Our fascination with celebrity relationships or political leaders of our day, while seemingly harmless, can veer into the realm of escapism or border on idol worship, distracting us from the pressing issues that demand our attention or worse eclipsing our devotion to God, who is jealous for our hearts.

The surviving and thriving of Israel echo through the ages, reminding us of God's unwavering promise to His people and of Israel's significance in God's plan—a nation that stands as a testament to the world of God’s love and faithfulness. Here are 5 verses that highlight God's promises to Israel, reflecting His commitment and the special relationship with the nation:

  1. Genesis 12:2-3 "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
  2. Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
  3. Jeremiah 31:10 "Hear the word of the LORD, O nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands: 'He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'"
  4. Isaiah 43:5-6 "Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth."
  5. Zechariah 8:7-8 "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west. I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.'"

As we take comfort in these promises, especially in times of tragedy, such as the recent loss of an IDF soldier in battle, the passing of a hostage father of two young boys in captivity, or the terrorist bombing attack in Northern Israel, we are called to remember that "Do not be afraid, for I am with you" is not just a reassurance, but a call to action. The heartbreaking news from Kansas City following the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory serves as another somber reminder of the fragility of life.

In these moments of loss and despair, we are faced with a choice: Can we find a glimmer of hope in the enduring love of Christ, a love that triumphs over all adversity, or will we seek refuge in the fleeting comfort of celebrity love stories? As followers of Christ and advocates for Israel, we are encouraged to look beyond the surface, to engage with the world through the lens of faith, and to remember the significant role Israel plays in God's plan for humanity.

And as you join us in praising the Living God for the miracle of the modern-day state of Israel, we pray you’ll renew your own resolve to bless Israel and the Jewish people by giving a generous gift of support.

May God bless you for being a blessing to Israel and the Jewish people
